There Is Nothing Wrong With One Party System, Who Will Stay In A Sinking Ship Without Life Jacket? – President Tinubu Declare.

President Bola Tinubu, on Thursday, said he was expecting more politicians to defect to the ruling All Progressives Congress ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The President, who said he was happy with what his administration and the party had achieved, said he did not expect people to remain in “a sinking ship without a life jacket.”

He said defection was part of the game.

According to a statement on Thursday by his spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, the President spoke at the APC Renewed Hope Agenda Summit, held at the State House Conference Centre on Thursday.

Tinubu addressed party leaders, the National Working Committee, the leadership of the National Assembly, and the Progressive Governors’ Forum, which comprises 22 governors.

All of them collectively endorsed him for a second term.

The President said his administration’s focus on economic reforms for long-term gains has continued to receive positive reviews from within and outside the country.

A one-party system is not suitable for democracy. We are one party ruling and carrying on with the aspirations of Nigerians.“

You don’t expect people to remain in a sinking ship without a life jacket. I am happy with what we have accomplished and expecting more people to come; that’s the game,” he was quoted as saying.

The President said citizens have the constitutional right to choose between associations.

I thank every one of you. I am thoroughly inspired. We are just halfway through the journey that started 24 months ago,” he said.

The President thanked members of the Federal Executive Council for courageously pursuing the vision of a better Nigeria and the party leadership and National Assembly for their support.

“Together, we pledged to confront Nigeria’s challenges head-on by rebuilding the trust, fostering prosperity and restoring our nation’s economic quest.”

Today, I am proud to affirm that our economic reforms are working. Nothing good comes easy in life. All of you have been through life, and sometimes, only hard decisions can make things easy in the future.

We couldn’t just afford to spend the future of our children and unborn babies.

Through our Renewed Hope Agenda, our administration pledged to tackle economic instability, improve security nationwide, reduce corruption, reform governance, and lift our people out of poverty.

How fast could you have rebuilt this country? If you allow the arbitrage in the exchange rate to continue, that is the grandfather of corruption. You could see EFCC recover over seven hundred and fifty-something houses from one person,” he said.

The President admitted that the reforms were tough decisions but assured Nigerians they were necessary.

Yes, we encountered challenges when we assumed office in May 2023, but we have made progress by implementing difficult, long overdue but necessary economic reforms.

We have eliminated the arbitrage-driven multiple foreign exchanges, and our far-reaching tax reforms are coming.

I’m Not Dead” Man Demand For His Money 150m Allegedly Vanished From His UBA Account

A Nigerian returnee has accused the United Bank for Africa (UBA) of allegedly clearing N150 million from his bank account based on claims that he was dead.

The shocking allegation came to light during a live video call with human rights activist Gwamnishu Harrison, who has now vowed to take up the case legally.

According to the returnee, who has not yet been publicly identified, the incident occurred in 2023 while he was living abroad.

He revealed that during his time away, he regularly saved money in his UBA account, making deposits up to five times a year. However, upon returning to Nigeria, he was stunned to hear from bank officials that his entire savings had been withdrawn by individuals who allegedly claimed he had died and was already buried.

The man added that when he visited the bank to demand answers, police officers were already on standby to arrest him, accusing him of causing a disturbance. He recounted that all he did was raise his voice out of shock and frustration.

APC Moving From Progressive Party To Monarch, Planning To Bury Oppositions – Saliu Lukman

Former National vice chairman (Northwest) of All Progressives Congress, Salihu Lukman, has expressed concern that ruling party is gradually moving away from its founding ideals of progressivism toward monarchy system.

Speaking on Channels Television  program on Friday,  Mr. Lukman lamented that internal contests had been abandoned in favour of automatic adoptions.

He also expressed disappointment in the party’s current direction, claiming it had drifted from its founding ideals.

Mr. Lukman said: “The APC has moved from a party envisioned to be progressive to almost a monarchy.

“As it is now, the APC mantra is that there will be no internal contest in 2027, the President is adopted. All their governors are adopted. Legislators are also adopted.”

Speaking further, the former APC’s chieftain said that discussions had been ongoing for over a year to establish a viable platform capable of challenging the current political status quo.

He said, “There is nothing stopping the coalition from coming to fruition.

“Even when the governors claimed, for instance, they were not part of the coalition, we responded clearly. Some of them, as you have seen, either have already moved to the APC or are on their way to move to the APC.”

So, clearly, they are doing the bidding of the APC and the ‘Asiwaju’ government. So, we are not bothered about that. We have the PDP bloc in the coalition and nothing is stopping the coalition.

“We are going through a painstaking process and very soon, we are going to come out and clarify all the details, in terms of how we are going to contest the 2027 elections and the leaders of the coalition; all those will be known.”

Aregbeola Hosts Atiku At Osun Residence

Former Governor of Osun State, Rauf Aregbesola, on Friday, May 22, 2025, played host to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.

The meeting took place at Aregbesola’s residence in Osun.

Atiku shared the development on his social media handle, posting a video of his arrival with the caption: “Breakfast at the residence of former Governor of Osun State, Engr. Rauf Aregbesola.”

The meeting is believed to be part of Atiku’s ongoing efforts to launch another bid for the Nigerian presidency in 2027.

Supreme Court Strikes Out 36 State Suit Against FG Over Recovered Loot

In a judgment on Friday, a seven-member panel of the Supreme Court was unanimous in holding that the suit was wrongly instituted before the apex court.

The Supreme Court has dismissed a suit filed by the 36 state governments and the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) challenging the federal government’s use of recovered looted funds.

In a judgment on Friday, a seven-member panel of the Supreme Court was unanimous in holding that the suit was wrongly instituted before the apex court.

In the lead judgment, prepared by Justice Chidiebere Uwa, but read by Justice Mohammed Idris, the apex court held that the plaintiffs wrongly invoked its jurisdiction.

It held that the subject matter of the suit, marked: SC/CV/395/2021, was within the jurisdiction of the Federal High Court.

The plaintiffs had claimed that “between 2015 and 2021 when the suit was filed, the FG has secured both international and municipal forfeiture, recovery and repatriation of “stolen assets” in the sum of NI,836,906,543,658.73, about 167 properties, 450 cars, 300 trucks and cargoes, and 20,000,000 barrels of crude oil worth over N450million,” which it allegedly failed to remit as required by the Constitution.

They alleged that instead of paying the cash into the Federation Account, the FG illegally diverted it into the Consolidated Revenue Accounts (CRA) and other accounts not recognised by the Nigerian Constitution.

The states argued that the CRA is the account into which FG’s share from the Federation Account, other federal earnings and funds belonging to specific state governments are paid.

They added that other federal earnings payable to the CRAs include receipts from federal government licenses and land revenue, administrative fees, earnings and sales, rent of government property, interests from federal government investments, repayments from state governments, Personal Income Tax of Armed Forces and others.

The plaintiffs stated that by establishing the Asset Recovery Account and Interim Forfeiture Recovery Account, into which revenue from recovered assets was to be paid, the Asset Recovery Regulation contradicts the provisions of the Constitution.

They noted that since 2015, “numerous recoveries of illegally acquired assets have been secured through anti-corruption and law enforcement agencies,” including the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), the Nigerian Police Force and the Office of the Attorney General of the Federation.

The plaintiffs, citing sections 162(1), 162 (10) and 80 of the Constitution and section 2 of the Finance (Control and Management) Act, 1958, argued that recovered funds qualify as revenue payable to the Federation Account instead of the Consolidated Revenue Account of the Federal Government.

They stated that it is “unconstitutional to remit or divert revenue payable into the Federation Account to the Consolidated Revenue Account of the Federal Government or any other account whatsoever, or to apply the said revenue to any other purpose,” the plaintiffs argued.

The plaintiffs prayed the court to, among others, declare, “that by the provisions of Section 162(1) and Section 162(10) of the Constitution of all income, returns, proceeds or receipts howsoever described derived from confiscated, forfeited and/or recovered assets constitute revenue of the federal republic of Nigeria, must be remitted to the Federation Account for the collective benefit of the federal, state and local governments.

They urged the court to issue a d order compelling the remittance of N1.8 trillion (cash) and N450 billion (non-cash) in recovered loot since 2015 into the federation account.

The plaintiffs also prayed the court to compel the defendants to give a detailed account of the recovered assets that are not remitted into the Federation Account by the President, as well as all the relevant officials and agencies of government.

They also want the apex court to compel the FG, through the Revenue Mobilisation and Fiscal Commission (RMFAC), to design the modalities for distributing recovered assets among the federating units.

Nigerian Government Takes 52 kobo From Every Naira I Make From Cement Business – Dangote Reveal

Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote , revealed on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, that the federal government of Nigeria earns more revenue from the operations of Dangote Cement than the company itself, asserting that 52 kobo of every N1 generated goes to the government.

Speaking at the 2025 Taraba International Investment Summit, Dangote emphasised the pivotal role of taxation in public development and underscored the importance of creating an enabling environment for private investment

I’m sure it might be shocking to you to know that the federal government of Nigeria, not even the state, makes more money from, for example, our cement business.

For every N1 we turn around, 52 kobo goes to the federal government of Nigeria,” Dangote said.

He argued that while the adage “government has no business in business” is often cited, public services such as education, healthcare, and infrastructure are still funded through private sector taxes.

“It’s through what? Taxes,” he noted, referencing how governments like the United States generate revenue from privately held oil blocks rather than owning them.

Dangote also highlighted the importance of strong domestic investment ecosystems as a magnet for foreign capital, stating that “until local investors prosper, foreign investors are reluctant to make an investment in a country.”

The comments came as the Dangote Group announced a major international expansion of its petrochemicals division.

The company has signed an exclusive global marketing agreement with Premier Product Marketing LLC, a Vinmar Group company, to distribute Dangote Polypropylene to international markets.

“This strategic agreement coincides with the launch of polypropylene production at Dangote’s refinery and petrochemical complex in Lekki, Nigeria,” said Anthony Chiejina, Group Chief Branding and Communications Officer.

Polypropylene is a high-demand plastic polymer used in various industries, including packaging, construction, automotive manufacturing, textiles, and medical equipment.

According to the company, the Ibeju-Lekki facility is capable of producing 900,000 metric tonnes annually, with projected revenue of $1.2 billion.

The plant will manufacture 77 grades of polypropylene, tailored to global industry needs.

Fatima Aliko Dangote, Group Executive Director (Commercial), stated, “Dangote Polypropylene will grow into a worldwide brand recognised for its dependability and quality, following in the footsteps of other Dangote products.”

Vinmar’s CEO, Vishal Goradia, added, “We are proud to expand our relationship with Dangote through this important partnership. We are now excited to support the global debut of Dangote Polypropylene.”

Founded in 1978, Vinmar operates in over 110 countries with more than 1,500 employees and 58 offices worldwide, making it one of the largest global marketers and distributors of petrochemicals.

The polypropylene launch follows the January 2024 commissioning of the Dangote Petroleum Refinery in Lagos, which began production of aviation fuel and diesel at a capacity of 650,000 barrels per day.

With this expansion, the Dangote Group further cements its position as a key player in Nigeria’s industrial landscape while deepening its global footprint in petrochemicals and refining.

Pavilion: Ex-CPS Alledg The Durbar Committee That They Have Been Controlled By State Government – Wahab Oba

Still on the Ilorin Durbar: How N150 Million Hijacked Tradition and Twisted the Narrative
Wahab Oba
23/05/’25

Let me begin by stating unequivocally that I hold our revered traditional institution and His Royal Highness, the Emir of Ilorin, in the highest esteem. I am not oblivious to the weight of tradition, the sanctity of the palace, and the need for decorum in times of controversy. However, when sacred traditions are manipulated, when cultural legacies are hijacked for transient political gains, and when silence becomes complicity, the truth must be told, no matter how uncomfortable. This is what informed this writeup.

I have been reliably informed by a respected member of the Ilorin Durbar Committee, under the condition of anonymity, about the behind-the-scenes drama that culminated in the release last night of the controversial statement signed by Engr. Yahaya Alapansapa, Chairman of the Ilorin Emirate Durbar Committee.

What I learned paints a disturbing picture of a revered cultural institution reduced to a political pawn in the hands of those who would rather exploit the Durbar as a tool of political leverage than preserve it as a symbol of unity and pride for the Ilorin Emirate.

This is not hearsay or idle speculation. The facts are in the open: the letter written by the Durbar Committee to the Kwara State Government begging for money to organise the Durbar; the pitiful financial state that prompted the appeal; the N150 million offer dangled before them; and the suffocating conditions tied to it. For those who hold the Ilorin Durbar sacred, this sequence of events is nothing short of sacrilege.

The deal, reportedly brokered under duress, saw the Committee, under the leadership of Engr. Alapansapa capitulate to the State Government’s political demands for control over the 2025 Durbar. Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, allegedly angered by the Committee’s “neutrality” regarding Senator Saliu Mustapha’s pavilion project, is said to have pressured them into submission: accept the N150 million sponsorship only if you dance to the government’s tune.

With barely three weeks to the Durbar and only about N5 million raised from a few well-meaning sons and daughters of the Emirate, the Committee had no choice but to turn cap-in-hand to Governor AbdulRazaq for a lifeline. But that lifeline came with strings attached.

In return for the State Government’s financial support, the Committee was allegedly instructed to, among other things, publicly disassociate itself from and misrepresent the facts surrounding Senator Mustapha’s pavilion project; recognize Governor AbdulRazaq as the sole sponsor of the 2025 Durbar; exclude political opponents, especially former Senate President Bukola Saraki, Senator Saliu Mustapha, Hon. Moshood Mustapha, and Mallam Lukman Mustapha from the celebrations; and for the first time, allow the conspicuous presence of the Governor’s lackey and anointed 2027 gubernatorial stooge.

Within 48 hours of this closed-door arrangement, the Committee released a public statement that bore the unmistakable fingerprints of government dictation. The tone, the omissions, and the narrative slant all pointed to a carefully orchestrated move to politicize what is supposed to be a celebration of heritage and identity.

Even more troubling is the Committee’s sudden erasure of history. As recently as 2018, during the tenure of former Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed, the Ilorin Durbar was revived in grand style. Both former Governor Ahmed and Senator Bukola Saraki played pivotal roles in restoring the Durbar’s dignity and glamour. Today, their names are deliberately omitted from the records in an act of historical revisionism. For what? A few wads of cash and political convenience?

The real tragedy here is that the Ilorin Durbar, meant to celebrate our shared history and unity, is now being reduced to a partisan jamboree. What should have been an honorable gesture of cultural support has become a veiled campaign rally.

Let it be clear: the Ilorin Durbar belongs to the people. It is a sacred tradition of the Emirate, not a tool in any governor’s reelection or succession strategy. It must not be held hostage by manipulation or financial coercion.

The Durbar Committee, peopled by otherwise respected sons and daughters of the Emirate, should have resisted this compromise. They should have stood firm in defence of our heritage, not surrendered it at the altar of political expediency.

The people are watching. And history, unlike money, never forgets.

Lagos Employed 1000 New Neighborhood Safety Officers.

The Lagos State Government has employed over 1,000 new officers into the Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps (LNSC) to enhance security across the state.

It says this is part of efforts to modernise and expand the scope of local security infrastructure.Speaking at the 2025 annual ministerial news briefing at Bagauda Kaltho Press Centre in Alausa, Ikeja, Commissioner for Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Relations, Mr. Olugbenga Oyerinde, unveiled the reforms and innovations implemented by LNSC.

He said: “In the past year, we have deepened our reach across communities by recruiting over 1,000 officers.

“This is more than just a number—it reflects our commitment to ensuring every ward in Lagos feels the presence of security and order.”

Oyerinde noted that beyond recruitment, the state had introduced specialised units such as Marine Patrol, Forest Rangers, Human Trafficking and Domestic Violence, Forensics, Crime Scene Management, Paramedics and Crowd Control.

These units, he said, were geared toward professionalising the agency and adapting to evolving security needs across the state. To improve operational efficiency, he said the state government had distributed new patrol bicycles, motorcycles, scooters and vehicles to officers to enable quicker response time.
