A horrific incident has been reported in Kwara State, where a suspect confessed to killing a young woman named Hafsoh for money rituals. The suspect, named Ibrahim, admitted the offense while being interrogated by the police and explained how he carried out the crime with the help of an accomplice.
Hafsoh was abducted under false pretenses and taken to a secluded area, the police said. She was strangled there, and her body was left in a bush. Ibrahim admitted to the crime and told the police that he committed the act to become rich and had been promised instant wealth by a native doctor if he could provide a human part.
He also told the court that he was introduced to ritual activities by his friend, who told him that human sacrifices were a “shortcut to wealth.” Parts of Hafsoh’s body were also reportedly harvested for the ritual after her murder.
Flashback: Similar Cases Sparked Outrage in 2022
Earlier in 2022, some teens in Ogun State were arrested for murdering a young girl for the same ritualistic purposes. This was after the event had attracted protests nationwide and calls for tougher laws against ritual killings. Just like in Hafsoh’s case, the victim had been lured, killed, and mutilated.
Back to the Kwara Tragedy
Hafsoh’s family had already reported her missing. Her body was found in the bush several days later. The police say they arrested Ibrahim thanks to community tips. During questioning, he confessed without resistance, saying he believed the act would terminate his financial problems.
The state’s police command confirmed the arrest and said the suspect would be charged in court after investigations. The Commissioner of Police described the case as heartbreaking and promised full justice for the victim.
He also warned young people to avoid being misled by false promises of wealth. “No one gets rich by killing others. Crime leads to jail or death, not riches,” he said.
