Empowering Kwara State’s Youth through HANDSKILLS Entrepreneurship

Presented by Hon. Commissioner Amb. Ndanusa Sheu, Kwara State Ministry of Youth Development, during the 2025 World Youth Skills Day Celebration, in partnership with the HANDSKILLS Entrepreneurship Initiative for Community, led by President Comr. Sulaiman Abdulfatai O.

“Youths of Kwara State, it’s time to wake up! As we celebrate World Youth Skills Day 2025, I’m honored to throw my weight behind the HANDSKILLS Entrepreneurship Initiative for Community! Kudos to Comr. Sulaiman Abdulfatai O. and his team for igniting the spark of innovation and entrepreneurship in our young people. Gone are the days of chasing white-collar jobs that may never come! It’s time to get your hands dirty, acquire skills, and build your own empire! The Ministry of Youth Development is ready to partner with you to unlock your potential and unleash your greatness. We’re not just talking about skills – we’re talking about revolutionizing our economy, creating jobs, and building a brighter future for ourselves and the next generation. Look at countries like China and India; they’re developing every day because their youth focus more on hand skills. It’s time for us to follow suit. And I’m not just talking about support – I’m pledging my full support for next year’s event! We’ll make it bigger, better, and more impactful!

2025 WORLD YOUTH SKILLS DAY CELEBRATION’S SPEECH BY: COMR. SULAIMAN ABDULFATAI, President HANDSKILLS ENTREPRENEURSHIP INITIATIVE FOR COMMUNITY

“Your Excellency, Hon. Commissioner for Youth Development, Amb. Ndanusa Sheu, distinguished guests, esteemed leaders, and fellow youths, I urge Nigerian youths to venture into skills entrepreneurship as a pathway to self-reliance and legitimate wealth creation.

The more creative you are, the higher your chances of success. It’s time to shift our focus from relying on others for handouts to empowering ourselves. We should seek wisdom and progress from our leaders, not just financial favors.

Given the current state of our nation, it’s crucial that we take charge of our own future and that of the next generation. I appreciate your presence here today, sir. We request the Kwara State government’s support in promoting the importance of hand skills among our youth, who often view them as inferior.

I recall a Corps member who shunned skills due to his father’s 45-year experience as a radio mechanic without building a prosperous business or securing a pension. This is what our organization aims to change – we provide products, markets, patronage, assistance, information, and connections to uplift our members.

I also plead with Kwara State government under the leadership of His Excellence Alh. Abdulrasaq Abdulrahman to care for young entrepreneurs the way they care for sports and entertainment. We need SME clinics in our states to nurture young entrepreneurs and create more jobs. It’s time for us to prioritize skills development and job creation.

I thank our patron, Hon. Justice S. O. Muhammad, Alh. Binta Abubakar Mora, GM Harmony FM, Kwara Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines, and Agriculture, and all our members for their unwavering support.

Kwara Govt Launches P-CNG Vehicles for Affordable Transport Scheme

Kwara Govt Launches P-CNG Vehicles for Affordable Transport Scheme

The Kwara State Government has launched the operation of the Compressed Nitrogen Gas (CNG) vehicles as part of efforts to promote affordable, reliable and economical transportation to residents of the State.

Performing the official launching at the Ministry of Transportation Headquarters in Ilorin, the Commissioner for Transportation, Hon. Lafia Aliyu Korasabi described the initiative as aligning with the ongoing Federal Government’s Transportation scheme was targeted at providing succour on the financial burden facing the larger population of Nigerians on transportation.

Hon. Korasabi emphasized that the PCNG Initiative, is a pilot programme and a deliberate effort by the Federal Government as directed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to enhance ease of transportation in the entire 36 States of the Federation, thereby mitigating the economic hardship of commuters in Nigeria.

He equally noted that the prompt release of the 20 CNG buses received to kick start the operation, underscored the strides and commitment of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq to improving the standard of living of citizens through affordable means of transportation.

The Commissioner for transportation, however, urged the transport union leaders in Kwara State to embrace the latest development, saying that the initiative was not intended to undermine or cripple the existing transportation sector, rather the scheme would create a symbiotic competition, giving alternative choices to citizens.

He, however, reeled out some selected locations and states for which the vehicles would be operating, which include, Abuja, Lagos, Ibadan and Niger State. Other areas within the State to be included in the pilot scheme are Lafiagi, Kiama, Patigi, Baruten, Moro, Local Government Areas and Malete Campus axis just for the start of the programme.

On his part, speaking for the Permanent Secretary, the Director, Personnel Finance and Supply of the Ministry, Mallam Tajudeen Onikoko, lauded the initiative and commended the Governor for providing an enabling environment where everyone thrives and implored all transport unions to embrace peace and work in synergy with the CNG operators in order to maintain a harmonious environment.

In his remarks, the State Coordinator for the CNG Station, Mr. Babatunde Gegele, disclosed that the station is presently situated at Odota Ilorin, with 20 CNG Busses as a pilot scheme to support the existing transport sectors, stressed that the scheme will go a long way to fill the vacuum the defunct Kwara Express had left behind, while enhancing the availability of a more reliable and affordable transport that supports all.

Gegele, however, pledged to work in synergy with all the existing transport bodies, stakeholders and law enforcement agencies to maintain strict adherence to the transportation rules and regulations of the State.

The Chairman, Road Transport Employees Association of Nigeria, Kwara State, Alh. AbdulRahman Olayinka Onikijipa, and his counterparts, Chairman, National Union of Road Transport Workers, Alh. AbdulRazaq Ariwoola and Chairman Association of Independent Transporters, Alh. AbdulGaniy Omoola Kasmag, described the programme as laudable and long anticipated, stating that it would boost development in the transportation business, while alleviating the suffering of the masses.

They all affirmed their total support for the initiative, while commending the Governor’s continued strides at improving the living standards of Kwarans.

The occasion had in attendance all the Directors of the Ministry, the Executive Cabinet members, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Transportation, Hon. Ibrahim Orire; Technical Assistant on Transport, Hon. Musbau Abubakar; representatives of Commissioner of Police; Directorate of State Security Service; the Commandant, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Kwara State; and the Kwara Internal Revenue Services; all pledged their full readiness to support the course and ensure total success of the programme.

It’s Better for Me to Lose My Senatorial Election Than to Allow A Northerner to Be The President – Ortom

Former Governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom, has reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to Nigeria’s unwritten zoning principle, stating that he was willing to sacrifice his own political ambition to protect the balance of power. Speaking during a recent interview on Channels Television, Ortom declared, “It is better for me to lose my senatorial election than to allow a Northerner to be president.”

Ortom’s comments underscore the deep-rooted belief among some political leaders that power rotation between the North and South remains critical for Nigeria’s unity.
