A Cleric sentenced to death by hanging for killing his client

A Cleric sentenced to death by hanging for killing his client

An Osun State High Court, sitting in Iwo, has sentenced an Islamic cleric, Kabiru Ibrahim, to d3ath by hanging for the m8rder of his 25-year-old client, Lukman Adeleke

Ibrahim, an Alfa, was charged with conspiracy, m8rder, and theft, contrary to Sections 324, 319(1), and 390 of the Criminal Code, Cap. 34, Laws of Osun State

Justice Lateef Adegoke, delivering judgment, held that the prosecution proved its case beyond a reasonable doubt and sentenced Ibrahim to death by hanging for murder.

A statement from the Information Officer of the Ministry of Justice, Opeyemi Bello, obtained in Osogbo on Wednesday, May 28, said the prosecution team, led by Abiodun Badiora, told the court that Ibrahim was a spiritual consultant to the deceased.

Badiora explained that the deceased had approached the cleric, revealing his intention to purchase a parcel of land, and Ibrahim asked him to bring the money for an overnight prayer before paying the vendor.

However, after the prayers, Adeleke went missing. During the search, his family was informed by an informant that he was last seen the day he visited Ibrahim’s residence.

“When the family confronted the cleric, he initially denied seeing the deceased for over two weeks. However, a community member refuted his claim, stating he had taken Adeleke to the cleric’s house the day before his disappearance,” the statement read.

“The matter was reported to the police, and during interrogation, Ibrahim confessed to the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) that he had murdered the deceased.

“He led authorities to the Ilesa/Akure expressway, where Adeleke’s remains were found inside a sack. One of his palms had been severed. Photographic evidence was tendered in court.

“The prosecution called six witnesses and presented several exhibits, including Ibrahim’s extrajudicial confession. It was also revealed that Ibrahim had stolen N300,000 from the deceased on August 24, 2016.”

The statement further said that the defendant’s counsel (name withheld) did not respond to the prosecution’s final written address.

In his judgment, Justice Adegoke found Ibrahim guilty of both m8rder and theft and sentenced him to seven years imprisonment for stealing and d3ath by hanging for murder.

Army Identity Foreign Machineries Training Boko Haram, ISWAP Fighters Arrest Four Pakistan

Army Identity Foreign Machineries Training Boko Haram, ISWAP Fighters Arrest Four Pakistan

MAIDUGURI — The Theatre Commander of Operation Hadin Kai, Major General Abdusalam Abubakar, has revealed that foreign mercenaries infiltrating the northeast region have intensified the threat posed by terrorist groups such as the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) and Boko Haram.

Speaking in Maiduguri, Major General Abubakar explained that the involvement of these mercenaries has enabled terrorist groups to adopt more sophisticated tactics, including the use of drones for surveillance and attacks, the manufacturing of advanced improvised explosive devices (IEDs), and the setting of traps targeting military personnel.

He stated, “The infiltration of foreign mercenaries in the joint operations area has significantly escalated the threat posed by terrorist groups like ISWAP and JAS.”

He also disclosed the recent arrest of four Pakistani nationals suspected of arms trafficking with terrorists, adding, “The foreign mercenaries facilitate tactical and strategic training for these terrorists.”

Major General Abubakar further noted an increasing level of coordination among terrorist networks, which has resulted in higher casualties and substantial equipment losses for government forces.

“The growing influence of these mercenaries is evident in the terrorists’ increasing coordinated assets, resulting in higher casualties among troops and greater equipment losses,” he said.

He called for an urgent and coordinated response, emphasizing the need for intensified intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance efforts, as well as strengthened cooperation between Nigeria and neighboring countries to disrupt cross-border support networks.

“The Boko Haram and Islamic State West African Province terrorists are not just waging war against the armed forces—they are waging war against Nigeria,” Abubakar said.

Praising the commitment of Nigerian troops operating under challenging conditions, he urged greater national recognition and support for their efforts

Nigerians Are Suffering From Fuel Subsidy – Orji Kalu

Senator representing Abia North, Orji Uzor Kalu, has claimed that Nigerians are reacting negatively to President Bola Tinubu’s economic policies because they are not used to working hard.

He stated this while addressing newsmen at the National Assembly complex on Tuesday, May 27, 2025.

Acknowledging the current economic hardship in the country, he urged citizens to be patient, insisting that the benefits of the ongoing reforms will soon become evident

“ Let me be honest with you. I’m a businessman, not a politician. There are only a few things that are not happening. The indices of Mr. President’s policies might not be working down the line. People are still suffering yes, I agree with that. But it has started trickling in at the macro level that is, at the upper level, not the lower level.

So I’m hoping that in the next two to three years, the President’s policies will trickle down, and Nigerians will appreciate what he’s doing,” he said.

Kalu praised Tinubu’s bold moves, including the removal of fuel subsidies and the unification of foreign exchange rates, calling them unprecedented since Nigeria’s independence.

Since 1960, this is the first President — and I have the facts who stopped the fuel subsidy. This is the first President who merged the dollar rates. That is why we are suffering — because Nigerians are not used to working hard. We’re used to getting easy money.

“People used to sit in their houses, use their phones, get dollars, and sell at very high rates,” he said.

He further criticised the culture of unearned wealth, pointing to practices such as currency speculation and profiteering through tank farms and government papers.

“ People sit at home, use their tank farms, collect papers, and make money. This is one President who has said: ‘if you are ready to make money, do it the right way. If you’re not ready, then leave it,” he added.

Lagos Employed 1000 New Neighborhood Safety Officers.

The Lagos State Government has employed over 1,000 new officers into the Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps (LNSC) to enhance security across the state.

It says this is part of efforts to modernise and expand the scope of local security infrastructure.Speaking at the 2025 annual ministerial news briefing at Bagauda Kaltho Press Centre in Alausa, Ikeja, Commissioner for Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Relations, Mr. Olugbenga Oyerinde, unveiled the reforms and innovations implemented by LNSC.

He said: “In the past year, we have deepened our reach across communities by recruiting over 1,000 officers.

“This is more than just a number—it reflects our commitment to ensuring every ward in Lagos feels the presence of security and order.”

Oyerinde noted that beyond recruitment, the state had introduced specialised units such as Marine Patrol, Forest Rangers, Human Trafficking and Domestic Violence, Forensics, Crime Scene Management, Paramedics and Crowd Control.

These units, he said, were geared toward professionalising the agency and adapting to evolving security needs across the state. To improve operational efficiency, he said the state government had distributed new patrol bicycles, motorcycles, scooters and vehicles to officers to enable quicker response time.
