System change advocacy group Apero Mekunu_
today convened a high-level stakeholders meeting with community leaders drawn from across Kwara State, as part of its consultations ahead of the 2027 General Elections.

The meeting, held at the Apero Mekunu Secretariat in Akerebiata, Ilorin, brought together traditional heads, youth leaders, women leaders, and civil society representatives from all three senatorial districts of the state.
Key Outcome:
Strong Community Interest
Discussions centered on Apero Mekunu’s planned political participation through the Zenith Labor Party in 2027. Community leaders present expressed strong interest in the group’s agenda and pledged to mobilize grassroots support.

Speaking at the event, the Coordinator of Apero Mekunu, group Amoye Bola Sideeq said:
“For too long, our people have been governed without being heard. Today, these leaders have shown us that Kwara is ready for a new kind of politics — one driven by competence, accountability, and the voice of the masses. We are planning to bring governance closer to the people, and the huge community leaders are with us. We urge the community leaders, professional organizations, and retirees to present the people that we can use as our candidates, those who can represent their interests if elected. We are not coming to fight. We are coming to vote and to fix.”
What Community Leaders Said
Several leaders noted that their communities are tired of “recycled promises” and want a platform that represents young people and professionals.
One youth leader from Kwara South stated: _“If Apero Mekunu will stand with the people and not abandon us after elections, our polling units will stand with them.”
